Liturgical & Music Ministries

The Mass is not something you merely attend. It is something in which you participate. Every person is called to contribute to the liturgy in a manner suited to his or her unique talents. For some, this means serving in a liturgical ministry at Mass.

All parishoners are invited and encouraged to share their talents and interests with the St. Peter Parish community by becoming involved in a liturgical ministry. Please consider volunteering for one of the following ministries.

Altar Servers

Children in the fifth through eighth grade are eligible to be altar servers. The special job of the altar server is to help the other ministers, especially the priest, during liturgical services. Altar servers minister by carrying the cross in procession, being a candle bearer, being a book server and assisting the priest at the altar.

Greeters

The role of Greeter is perhaps the single greatest ministry of welcome and hospitality. Never should this service be underestimated. St. Peter Parish continuously seeks ways to improve our Ministry of Hospitality.

Lectors

The Liturgy of the Word is an essential component of a Catholic Mass. In the readings, God speaks to his people, opening up to them the mystery of redemption and offering them spiritual nourishment...the riches of the Bible are opened to them. The liturgy of the Word is to be celebrated is such a way as to promote meditation... Like all liturgical ministries, Lectors are provided training and ongoing formation.

Ushers

Ushers minister to the assembly by helping people to their seats and assuring that the church is in prayerful order before and after each Mass. This group of volunteers takes up the collections at all Masses, facilitates those bringing forth the bread and wine and distributes the parish bulletin after Mass.

Sacristans

Sacristans prepare the altar and church interior for masses and other special liturgical celebrations. Additionally, they are responsible for cleaning the linens, crystal, and other liturgical items used during Mass. Their quiet presence is often unnoticed, yet the results of their labors are visible to all the parish community.
