Corporal Works of Mercy

 

Serve God through serving others.


Feed the hungry. Be fed.

  • Bring non-perishable food or personal hygiene items for the Food Pantry.
  • Donate money to the Food Pantry.
  • Participate in food drives.
  • Make meatloaf, cookies, sandwiches, etc. for one of the homeless ministries. (Lazarus House or Hesed House/PADS).
  • Donate an hour or more of time to Food Pantry.
  • Deliver food to homebound 1 to 3 times a month (Golden Diners).
  • Help out in a fundraiser for Food Pantry.
  • Get an organization to sponsor fundraiser for Food Pantry.
  • Join St. Gabriel Guild to promote social time on donut Sundays or act as hostess for various parish events.
  • Donate money to various appeals that help the poor.
  • Join St. Catherine Guild to fix meals for sick on short-term basis.
  • Use services if in need.


Clothe the naked. Be clothed.
  • Donate clothes to a worthy charity.
  • Buy baby clothes for the Pregnancy Centers.
  • Buy gifts for the Respect Life program. (dates announced in bulletin)
  • Donate money to various mission appeals that provide for the poor/needy.
  • Call Parish Center (630-232-0124) and ask what family or individual might need assistance and help in small or big way.
  • Use services if in need.


Shelter the homeless. Be sheltered.

Bury the dead. Comfort the sorrowful. Be comforted.
  • Pray for sick and deceased parishioners/family of parishioners. Check the weekly bulletin for names.
  • Help cook for or serve a funeral luncheon.
  • Take food to a family who has experienced a loss.
  • Serve as lector, musician, etc. at funeral Mass.
  • Become a Bereavement Minister.
  • Use services if in need.


Ransom the captives. Be ransomed.
  • Participate in one of many Respect Life events/programs. (watch bulletin)
  • Volunteer at a pregnancy center.
  • Visit individuals in prisons within your Parish.
  • Help the poor in myriad ways (Working for Success).
  • Align political views with your faith; vote and act accordingly.
  • Join the Respect Life ministry.
  • Use services if needed.



Instruct each other. Be instructed.

Employment Ministry - provides assistance with resume preparation, practice interviewing, recommendations to expqnd your professional network, and hands-on computer instruction to help you expand your skills. The group meets face-to-face and has an on-line networking group.

Catholics Returning Home - the purpose of Catholics Returnng Home is to make your search for the fullness of truth easier and more fruitful. God loves you so much that He will not stop searching for you, reaching out to you, and seeking you, so He can bring you safely home to a big, warm and loving Catholic family. But God is gentle . . . the choice is yours.

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) - is the process whereby adults are initiated into full communion with the Catholic Church. The RCIA is for those who were baptized in other faith traditions but now feel called to become Catholic.

  • those who have never been baptized or do not belong to a faith tradition but now feel called to become Catholic.
  • those who were baptized Catholic but never received Confirmation and First Holy Communion.
  • those who have received both Catholic baptism and First Holy Communion but were never Confirmed.
