Many students search for opportunities to give back to the program, parish, and community at large through specific leadership and mentoring programs such as being a Camp WOW Counselor or applying to be a member of the Peer Ministry Team.
Camp WOW Counselor Program
Camp WOW is a multi-parish Jr. High summer camp program held in June, and high school counselors from the participating parishes serve to mentor and guide the junior high campers into a deeper understanding and appreciation of their Catholic faith. Camp WOW counselors consist of high school students, freshmen through graduating seniors, who are committed to serving Jesus Christ through a life of prayer, service, and by proclaiming His Gospel. The goal of Camp WOW is Catholic youth evangelization. This is done through skits, talks, games, discussions, prayer, and the daily example of a Christian lifestyle. Through word and action, counselors attempt to expose these young people to a life-changing encounter with Jesus Christ.
Camp WOW Counselor applications for 2012 are available beginning November 2011 at the Parish Center.
Peer Ministry
In today’s society it is no longer a question as to whether or not our young people will be evangelized. Rather the question is ‘Who will lead the way?’ Our best means to evangelize teens is PEER MINISTRY! Peer Ministry is a leadership program for students (sophomore-senior) interested in serving, leading, and supporting their peers as they develop a deeper experience of Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church. Peer Ministers have a commitment to Jesus Christ and His teachings, and to the Catholic Church. In addition, Peer Ministers must be open to growing in their faith, have a desire and openness to share that faith with others, be spiritually and emotionally healthy, and be committed to a lifestyle that is pleasing to Christ
In 2010-2011, our Peer Ministry Program expanded to host two (2) teams. One specializes in retreat ministry (Retreat Team). The other focuses on student outreach through monthly evangelization events (Outreach Team).
What can you expect to gain from being a Peer Minister? Hard work, lots of fun, the support of a Christian community, a sense of fulfillment and accomplishment, spiritual challenge, the joy of effecting others in a positive way, and personal growth.
The application period for both the Peer Ministry Outreach and Retreat Teams in 2011-2012 has expired. Applications for the 2012-2013 Teams will be available in May 2012. Stay tuned to the spring parish bulletin for more information. |
